"Lockout/Tagout" refers to specific practices and procedures to safeguard employees from the unexpected energization or start-up of machinery and equipment, or release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities. Approximately 3 million workers service equipment and face the greatest risk of injury if lockout/tagout is not properly implemented.

What You Will Learn

Lockout/Tagout is one of OSHA's Top 10 "Most Serious Violations" and one of their "Most Often Cited Violations" (and part of the amputation emphasis program). Iowa-Illinois Safety Council safety professionals translate OSHA's Lockout/Tagout Regulation (29 CFR 1910.147, Subpart J) into terms you can use, and show you how to put them into practice.

  • The key components of an energy control program
  • The six main elements that should be in your lockout/ tagout procedures
