Crane and Hoist
To a crane operator, few experiences may be as frightening as when a crane becomes unbalanced while a load is being lifted or when the crane collapses under the weight of an excessive load. Moving large, heavy loads is crucial to today's manufacturing and construction industries. Much technology has been developed for these operations, including careful training and extensive workplace precautions. There are significant safety issues to be considered, both for the operators of the diverse "lifting" devices, and for workers in proximity to them.
This training will cover at a minimum overhead and gantry cranes, hoists, truck cranes, slings, designated persons, and specific requirements for handling the load under the General Industry standards (1910); cranes, hoists, specific requirements for handling the load, and requirements for certifying competent persons and qualified persons under the construction standards (1926).
Other training topics included in this training are duties of the signal person, as well as crane, hoist and sling inspections.
NOTE: This training does not meet the “Competent Persons” certification requirements under the 1926 Construction Standards.
