The Intersection of Safety & Technology

Join us for a light breakfast and networking with fellow attendees at our next Networking Breakfast.  This event will be hosted by IISC member and sponsor Holmes Murphy at their facility in Waukee, Iowa.  Can't attend in person? IISC members can attend virtually via zoom at no cost. 

In this session, we will review recent developments in technologies that may benefit your safety and risk management programs. Chris and Steven will discuss their experiences with workplace wearables, internet-enabled sensors, computer vision and artificial intelligence, smartphone applications, and other technology-based solutions.

Chris is responsible for leading the Loss Control team across all Holmes Murphy geographies, as well as serving clients directly with their risk management needs. Chris has nearly two decades of insurance loss control experience and has earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and 13 other professional designations. In addition to being a member of the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council, Chris is also actively involved in the American Society of Safety Professionals and has been on the board of the Iowa CPCU Society Chapter since 2010.

Steven Shaffer joined EMC Insurance in 2005 as an Industrial Hygienist to support chemical management assistance efforts. Prior to joining EMC he worked as an analytical chemist and chemistry educator. In 2011 he was a founding member and chair of EMC’s first emerging issues committee. He currently supports EMC’s IoT initiatives including building sensors and wearable devices.

In-person attendees can arrive as early as 8:30 am to network and enjoy a light breakfast with other attendees.  The presentation will start at 9:00 am.
