Steve Jobs was quoted: “That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simplicity can be harder than complex. You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
This presentation explains various techniques, barriers and programs that influence the success of an organization’s safety culture. We will discuss strategies of becoming a learning organization that can adapt to the struggles of managing an unexperienced workforce and countering the complacency found in some of the most experienced organizations.

Joshua Jacobsen, CSP, SMS, is a Senior Loss Control Consultant and Team Lead for Construction at Holmes Murphy and Associates. He is a past recipient of the National Safety Council Top 40 Under 40 and the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Region 5 Safety Professional of the Year. Joshua volunteers on the Iowa State University’s Agriculture and Biological Systems Engineering External Advisory Board, ASSP Hawkeye Chapter Executive Board, and the Iowa Governor’s Occupational Safety & Health Advisory Committee.
