Upcoming Alive at 25 dates

QUESTIONS REGARDING THE SUSPENSION BEFORE OR AFTER THE CLASS: EMAIL Vania.Boyd@iowadot.us  Please allow 2-3 days for her to respond to emails.

  • If you do not receive the registration confirmation email after registering, please email Dawn@iisc.org - if you do not get a registration confirmation then we do not have your registration.
  • If you do not receive the zoom link before the class, or have issues logging on before the class, email AliveAt25@iisc.org

Class registration will close 1 week before each class (unless the class is full prior) to ensure enough time is given for workbooks to be mailed and received before the class. All classes will be held virtually via Zoom.

  • Workbooks will be mailed to the student 3-4 days before the class - THERE IS NO NEED TO STUDY BEFORE THE CLASS, just show up and be attentive!
  • The link to the zoom meeting will be sent to the email address listed in the student information listed below 4-6 days before the class.
  • Please make sure the student is familiar with the zoom platform before the class so there are no issues the morning of the class.
  • Student must use a computer or tablet to log into the class - NO CELL PHONES
  • IISC will alert the Iowa DOT of your course registration and completion status.
  • Student is only given one opportunity to avoid suspension by completing the class.  If another suspension notice is received after completing the class, the student can not take the class again to avoid another suspension.  There will be no refunds given in the event the student attempts and completes the class multiple times in attempt to avoid suspension.

Frequently Asked Questions:

IISC = Iowa-Illinois Safety Council | Iowa DOT = Iowa Department of Transportation

1. There isn't a class available before my deadline to take the class - what can I do?
Email Vania at the Iowa DOT at Vania.Boyd@iowadot.us to request an extension. In most cases an extension will be granted.

2. After I take the class, how soon is my suspension lifted?
IISC will usually submit the completed class list to the Iowa DOT within 1-2 business days after the class. Once the Iowa DOT marks the class as complete in their system, the suspension is immediately lifted.  This process can take 3-5 days but IISC and the Iowa DOT try to update the information as soon as possible.

3. Will I receive notification that my suspension has been lifted?
Yes - A letter is immediately sent in the mail and should be received within a few days.  All DMV's can check the record to see if it has been lifted.

You will also receive a digital copy of your completion certificate from IISC.  This is proof that you have completed the class but IS NOT an official notification that your suspension is lifted within the Iowa DOT system.  You may receive your completion certificate before the Iowa DOT has had a chance to change it in their system.

4. If I have completed the  course and am still receiving notifications that my license is suspended, what should I do?
Email Vania at the Iowa DOT at Vania.Boyd@iowadot.us and she can check the status OR All DMV's can check the record to see if it has been lifted.

5. Can my child take the Alive at 25 course if they do not have a court order to complete the course?
Absolutely!  We recommend all teen drivers take the Alive at 25 so they are more prepared to drive by learning the negative effects and dangers associated with speeding, distractions, peer pressure, and driver inexperience.  It's a great tool in addition to their regular Driver's Education course.  If your child is not court ordered to take the Alive at 25 course, please email Dawn@iisc.org after registration to let us know so that their information will not be submitted to the Iowa DOT.
