Available Safety Certifications

Ready to advance your safety career to the next level?
The Iowa-Illinois Safety Council (IISC) offers safety certifications for people new to safety or seasoned professionals.

Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC)

  • This Nationally recognized safety certificate program is offered through the National Safety Council and only provided by National Safety Council chapters. 
  • For any stage of your safety career, sharpen your leadership skills to drive fundamental safety change throughout your organization. 
  • Classes can also be taken individually even if you do not plan to complete the program. 
  • To complete the program - all courses must be completed within a 5 year period

How to complete the Advanced Safety Certificate program:

  1. Certificate requires the completion of 7.8 CEUs
  2. Complete the Principles of Occupational Safety and Health (POSH) course (2.6 CEUs). This is the ONLY mandatory class to complete the program.
  3. Complete any combination of the selection of 4-day classes (2.6 CEUs each) or 1-day classes (.65 CEUs)

    Classes are available in person and virtually.

 


Specialist in Safety & Health (SSH)

  • Courses are only taught by approved OSHA Training Institute (OTI) host sites
  • This is a fundamental certificate program requiring just four courses and there is no time limit to complete the courses to receive your SSH
  • Increase your awareness of changing Federal Regulations
  • Choose from General Industry, Construction, or Healthcare Industry tracks

How to complete your SSH:

  • Take the one required course for your track (OSHA 511, OSHA 510, or OSHA 521)
  • Complete 3 electives
  • One course can be transferred outside from any OSHA Training Institute Education Center outside of Region VII

Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO)

A Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO) is a nationally recognized program focusing on safety and health regulations and interpretations, training requirements, employee safety and involvement, workers rights and responsibilities, employer accountability, program development and implementation. This certificate program will advance your career in the safety and health profession by earning a valuable credential.

Available tracks: General Industry or Construction Industry

How to complete your CSHO:

  • Complete the 6 required courses
  • Complete 2 electives
  • Courses completed by earning your SSH can be transferred to the completion of the CSHO
