Choose between the Basic Session or Advanced Session (Description for each is below)
Basic Session Description (8:30 am - 12:00 pm)
Exposures to noise hazards take a tremendous toll on our country. Approximately 22 million workers are exposed to harmful noise, with 1.7 million over the age of 50 suffering from significant hearing loss. However, there is good news! It is absolutely possible to avoid exposure to harmful noise and maintain great hearing capabilities. Iowa State University offers a free training program that will prepare you to do just that: recognize, understand, and control exposure to noise hazards.
Additionally, attendees will learn and practice how to use a Sound Level Meter, which they are able to keep. This 3.5-hour training is designed for all levels of employees that work in manufacturing environments. Supervisors and safety personnel should participate in this basic session before proceeding to the advanced session.
Advanced Session Description (8:30 am - 3:00 pm)
The Advanced training session is only two hours long. Attendees that complete the advanced option will learn how to assess the workplace for noise exposure risks and identify potential solutions for reducing the risks. Upon completion, attendees will receive a card indicating completion of Noise Risk Evaluation training.
This program is offered by the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at Iowa State University.
